About 25 percent of our students play on varsity teams, with hundreds more participating in intramural and . Our coaches are faculty members, our facilities are among the best, and our weather is ideal for year-round outdoor play.
Pomona combines forces with Pitzer College to field 21 varsity teams –  – that compete in Division III NCAA athletics and as members of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC).
We often have D1-level athletes who choose to attend Â鶹ŮÀÉ because of the academic/athletic balance they can find here.Â
While our games with cross-campus rivals Claremont McKenna-Harvey Mudd-Scripps (CMS) are not to be missed, the same players who go head-to-head during soccer season might play side-by-side on a 5C club team, like cycling, fencing, field hockey, men’s lacrosse, racquetball, roller hockey, rugby, Ultimate Frisbee, or volleyball.
We also have intramural sports. You can try your hand at inner tube water polo, beach and indoor volleyball, tennis, soccer, squash, pool/billiards, chess, dodgeball, flag football, basketball, softball, racquetball, foosball and table tennis.
Our Southern California location is also perfectly situated for outdoor adventures. Start on Orientation Adventure with a trip to the Mammoth Lakes, Yosemite or Big Sur. (There are also options for non-outdoors-types.)
You can hike at the Claremont Loop or in the mountains, just minutes from campus. Adventurous sorts can surf, ski, rock climb, hike and kayak on On the Loose club trips. The Outdoor Education Center offers wilderness and climbing workshops and PE classes, the ability to check out gear, and outdoor leadership certification.
